Their inaugural season ended with an abysmal 40-120 record, still holding the post-1900 record for most losses in a single season. The Mets' roster consisted of a mix of aging veterans and unseasoned rookies, making their performance a concoction of misplays, errors, and on-field blunders. This ill-fated season became a cultural touchstone, with the team's misadventures and Stengel's colorful commentary providing unintentional comedic relief. Nevertheless, their struggles endeared them to fans who appreciated the underdog spirit and recognized the challenges of establishing a new team. Over time, the '62 Mets have become emblematic of perseverance and passion, and they set the stage for the franchise's eventual triumph in the 1969 World Series, when they became the "Miracle Mets".
